Château Haute Roche is a peaceful hideaway overlooking the Loire valley, between Nantes and Angers. The Loire by bike (Loire à vélo ) route and Eurovélo 6 connects the Atlantic coast to the Black Sea and crosses the property, making it an ideal and well-deserved stopover without straying from the route.
Passionate about bike holidays , we ourselves have biked Nantes to Budapest and know the importance of a comfortable stop after a long day of riding.
Discover a large number of destinations on the Pays de la Loire website. And do not hesitate to bring your own bike or rent on site.
Château Haute Roche is a strategic anchor point for visiting the Loire Valley, its Castles, and the estuary. Visiting the towns of Ancenis (8 kms) and its castle, Saint Florent le Vieil (22 kms) and its superb abbey overlooking the Loire is one of many pretty excursions.
Our village of Oudon is a bit closer and features its illuminated tower, which we can see from our terrace. Time your trip to visit Oudon’s friendly Sunday morning market, perfect for a stroll and a visit to the Hâvre valley .
On the other side of the Loire, we recommend Champtoceaux , an ancient medieval city frequently compared, at its glorious time, to Carcassonne. As an added benefit, from Champtoceaux you can rent and launch kayaks.
For more on the sporting front, de l’Île d'Or golf course is 5 km from Haute Roche, offering a warm welcome and a unique location on the Loire.
A little further away, plan a day-drive up the Loire Valley and visit the beautiful medieval city of Chinon (116 kms), the gardens of Villandry (134 kms) and the Abbey of Fontevraud (101 kms).
For a more cosmopolitan scene, plan a trip to Nantes by bike (26 km) or by train. Nantes offers an active metropolis, perfect for discovering shopping, restaurants, and visiting its historic and cultural sites. Nantes is known nationally and internationally as a host to a variety of cultural events such as the music festival La Folle Journée , Le Voyage à Nantes , the Festival des Trois Continents .
For a change of scenery, visit Clisson , a town inspired by Italian Renaissance and a sight not to be missed. This is a wonderful half-day excursion, with a picnic basket and a bottle of wine.
Speaking of wine, local and Anjou wines are close at hand and a visit to the cellars is a must, always in moderation of course!
From La Folle Journée or Le Voyage à Nantes, Puy du Fou, to Loire Castles, and the Atlantic beaches, there is always something to explore and discover around Haute Roche.
